Hey peeps,

I spoke about MWTF's future at our ARM meeting and we agreed that we are willing to have MWTF as a project under ARM and try to incorporate it in our funding proposal because we really want the classes to continue in Hamra (I guess MWTF would need 5000$ to continue for another year). That would save time for MWTF since we don't have anyone to write a proposal. However, this would mean we would have to meet with SDC and explain the situation (SDC does not cover organizational running costs, only projects, so this point might look weird on the ARM proposal).

Let me know what you think. Our other choices are:

2) MWTF to find someone to write a proposal and ARM does accept to be a fiscal sponsor. Since ARM is an official NGO, this might work with SDC.

3) Registering MWTF as an NGO then applying: this would take more time, I don't think we'd meet the proposals deadline and anyways there isn't anyone yet to write the proposal.

4) Stop MWTF classes in Hamra after all of us leave.

Option 1 is NOT final, this would require a meeting with ARM, and a meeting with SDC, for us to evaluate its' feasibility. However, it does seem to me to be the most feasible options out of the ones listed.

Let me know what you think. I think this issue should be held for voting between all coordinators (May, Omar, Arcella, Sereen, Me). I vote for Option 1, although it might end up being not feasible.

Cheers,

Hi Everyone,

So I read this email at around 1 in the morning and so decided to sleep on it before I respond!

First, Ramy, thanks for checking on whether having us as a project with ARM in relation to the SDC proposal is a possibility.

After much thought, I personally feel option 1 is the best for the classes in particular. I have already been thinking about how to keep the classes going for the summer and having the money through ARM's help would it SEEMS help immensely with the classes. It might also be possible to gain more help by the summer when all of you are gone and many volunteers will be gone as well.  Maybe I will actually have meetings with people who are interested in discussing the Altcity classes fully, looking at new ideas, new notions of teaching. Maybe we can have some of the volunteers as ARM interns and/or MWTF interns in the summer to help with trainings/resources etc. Maybe I will finally get the support I would be looking for in the summer. (maybe not)

I choose Option 1 ONLY because of the classes. But because the deadline to SDC is coming this Friday, I am not sure what that means. I would like the option to be tried out even if/when we go ahead with registering MWTF as an NGO.

Does Option 1 means that MWTF can't have it's independent structure and decisions? Would all decisions by MWTF have to go through ARM?

That is a very important idea Arcella but it won't guarantee us funding. And in case we don't get it, we will have no money, no personnel and no funding. Plus I'm afraid that this would take too much time and that we will miss the deadline.

I vote we pay someone to write the proposal for us. We have the money but we dont have the time. We need someone with experience. If you want I can see if someone is available.

I am afraid that we are not looking into the future of MWTF beyond us.

Sincerely,
Arcella

Hey Everyone,

I am personally not very worried about decisions being made by ARM and our independence as MWTF because MWTF and ARM as someone who has worked in both, are very, very similar. This is especially because MWTF and ARM were organized by the same group of people before they split. For example, the classes at MCC are the same exact informal setting as the classes in AltCity.

I also would expect, if there was time to consider option 1, that a meeting with Rana and Farah would help clarify a lot of stuff and would provide us with the opportunity to flesh out what is or is not possible. This is the ONLY way we would know whether option 1 is feasible. By actually meeting with ARM and having a long discussion...if we find it not feasible at all, then at least we looked at that option.

That being said, the issue of option 1 seems to be time - because the deadline to applying for the proposal is by Friday March 20. Once the deadline is passed, that option is gone.

Are we all interested in looking into this at such a short period of time? And if we are interested, Ramy, are you capable of facilitating our meeting with Rana and Farah?

May

Dear all,
As you all know my knowledge and involvement with funding and similar issues beyond the classes is very limited; nonetheless, based on Ramy's email, option 1 makes the most sense to me.
