Dear all,
Please find attached a draft press release in support of the domestic workers’ union. We will release the joint statement in Arabic, English, French, and Spanish. Please let me know no later than Wednesday, March 4 COB if your organization would like to sign and if you have any suggested edits. We will then send a final version with the signatures shortly afterwards so that we can release the press release together (the exact date will depend upon how quickly it is translated- we will keep you updated).
We are seeking signatures from organizations operating in Lebanon and other countries as well. The ITUC said that says it has recorded formation of new domestic worker unions in 13 countries in the past three years.
We therefore want to highlight that Lebanon would be out of step with growing global momentum on domestic workers organizing if it fails to recognize the new union.
If I left any organizations off of this list, please let me know and I will reach out to them.
My colleague Nisha, cc’d to this email, will be sending out the release to organizations outside of Lebanon for their signatures.
