Thank you so much for  this article Mr. Harold E. Acemah  http://www.monitor.co.ug/OpEd/Commentary/-/689364/1382100/-/125civ8z/-/index.html I am equally saddened by this slander on the person and integrity of the Rev Coates, the teachers of Mwiri as well as that of our School in general

I suggest that the leadership of MOBA as well as the school administration should also write a rebuttal in the papers and also write to the said Dr Peregrine Kibuuka ((OR the author of this article to either verify its truths and/or )), asking him to verify whether he said these words and if so to demand an apology for saying them

The Rev Coates has many friends and admirers and family in England and it is going to be such a terrible thing if they read this kind of lies!!!

Daniel

Well defending BCM as a system i.e school is every OB's duty. As for eras and individuals, it is themselves to blame. When it comes to the name(s) Dr. Apollo 'Milton' Obote (R.I.P.), I get numb. To me its a paradox for which BCM sh'dn't be blamed at all. This is due to the fact that:
  • I was at the SCHOOL for 6 years (1995-2000)
  • I am a Muganda, who grew and is still living at Mmengo
  • mothered by an Anglican though Iam a Catholic
  • whose great grand uncle was killed by the stray bullet that was meant to quell the re-known chaos @ Nankulabye, when SMACK students were killed in the Obote I regime, in that place (next to the market going to NICODEMUS)
  • his heir, Byron Kawaddwa (R.I.P.) was defamed by the Arusha group (of the 1970s.) till he was also assasinated by the Amin govt.
  • mymaternal grandfather lost his job after the 1966-Ugandan Crisis
  • a younger sister of my mum was raped due to reading past midnight & my maternal granparents' residence was robbed in the Obote II regime
  • my paternal grand father died in the re-known Luweero triangle in the 1981-86 war
  • I support the Democratic Party of Uganda
  • etc.

So to me Apollo Obote is a paradox. The good exists but to me the taint, I reserve it to myself for the good of MOBA & maintaining objectivity as one who reached the SCHOOL. BCM is not Apollo Obote, Wanyama Benard, Kabaalu Deo., Daniel Ruhweza etc. The media has to earn. Yes, Dr. P. Kibuuka is educated but NOT learnt. He wasn't objective as one who attained a Philosophiae doctor degree.

Let's think of BCM not individuals after all, the country's motto was plagiarised from the SCHOOL. Such situations exist, Mr. Acemah as a political scientist & former statesman, is well aware that nature / politics have no guarantees. Yes, by his surname, it sh'd. be hurting but pragmatically consider Mr. Peregrine Kibuuka & I (Kabaalu Deogratias), Baganda, Catholics & DP-Uganda wellwishers & / or members.

A Happy Easter Week, bana.

Deogratias

My sincere condolences for your loss and pain as you enumerated below

I think this is one such fora where we can learn from the past and ensure that we have a better future.  We should start by clearly denouncing any actions that derail our school from its truthful place in history. Mwiri was mother to us all as you have enumerated and it trainedpeople from all walks, religions, tribes, nationalities - name it

Let us continue in this tradition or unity even in our diversity

Regarding BCM as a system e.g. the Rev. Coates etc., the apology is okay but not to the then student, Apollo Obote & family / clan / peerage (apart from MOBA).

In the spirit of unity at microlevel let's focus on rejuvinating the greatness of the SCHOOL to its most golden times. I hope that MOBA-UK's impact will be felt at Hotel Africana, on the  24th/4/12.  Maybe then our 'wounds' will heal.
