Greetings all,

Happy new year from USA Cycling! With the 2012 Collegiate Cyclo-cross National Championships under our belt (for those that missed it, it was fun in the balmy sun), and road season starting THIS WEEKEND with the University of Arizona Crit, it’s time for a few reminders and updates. Some of this has already been covered by your conference director, but some of it might be new, as well.

1.     Start your road race permits NOW! There are significant late fees for filing within six weeks of your event, and even more for filing within two weeks of the event. Please see www.usacycling.org/news/user/story.php?id=6620 and www.usacycling.org/rd for information on permitting and hosting a race. Your conference might also have specific information for race directors, such as a separate email list for you to talk amongst yourselves, or a race director’s handbook of one sort or another. Additionally, there is a $50 fee for filing a paper permit, so be sure to use the online permitting system.

2.     Be sure your club has renewed its USA Cycling membership and is not pended for lack of paperwork (check the details link next to your club name on this list: http://usacycling.org/clubs/index.php?org=Collegiate&st=&club=&order=date_exp)

3.     Remind your team that once the club is renewed and in good standing, they can renew their licenses online, which NEEDS to happen before the first race. Buying licenses on site at events can take a while to get processed and applications have been known to blow away and/or get lost in the shuffle at events, so the safe route is always to renew online.

a.     On this note, only a COLLEGIATE license is acceptable for entry into collegiate races. These are $30 on their own, or FREE if purchased with another USA Cycling license. If you purchase the other license first and go back and add the collegiate license later, there will be a $15 reissue fee.

Look for a new issue of the Collegiate update in the coming weeks, with recruiting tips straight from the mouths of the 2011 Gatorade contest winners, and info on the next round of Gatorade contests, among other topics. As always, please let me know if you have questions or concerns, and happy riding!
