Mwalim to Lecture on "Arts & Resistance in the Digital Age" @ UMass Dartmouth- 2/16
N. DARTMOUTH - Even sabbatical can't keep this teacher from his duties during Black History Month. Mwalim will be visiting the UMass Dartmouth campus for the first time this semester on February 16, 2012 @ 2pm at the Frederick Douglass Unity House, to give a special lecture on "Arts & Resistance in the Digital Age." The lecture will focus on the use of computers to produce music and visual art, as well as the role of social media in the artist's effort to reach the masses with their message.
In 2009, Mwalim embarked on a project called ORE Music Group through the Creative Economy Grant funded by UMass to explore how independent musical artists could effectively use the Internet as a means to generate revenue from their music as well as further their careers. Through the project about 30 participating bands and artists were able to launch and/or further their careers through the program, including CD and music download sales, press reviews, gigs and tours.
