ALCON,

Below is an email forwarded to me by a Veteran that contacted me looking forassistance with the issue he mentions below. I could not personally assist him but I offered to send this out to the MVO group as a whole in case somebody on the mailing list might be able to help him or to refer him to somebody. If you can assist out fellow Veteran please do so. Thanks.

Hello, my name is Jack Wolf and I am a former Navy Seal team member who put in 8 years and was honorably discharged. I have no criminal history, no mental issues, no drinking problems, no drug problems, I do not smoke and I have zero points on my drivers record.

I was recently in Santa Barbara under a per diem program in which the US Department of Veterans Affairs paid the Salvation Army Hospitality House around $40.00 for every day I was a resident in that facility. My stay there was terminated last Monday under circumstances that were highly irregular. Some of the aspects that revolve around my termination appear unethical and perhaps even criminal. In a nut shell, I tried to organize a veterans rights group among the residents who were not happy with the program and who were unable to get the VA to address any of their concerns. Since I have been in compliance with the program rules and regulations they have no cause for terminating the contract I signed Friday, 25 SEP 2009.

I was hoping that you might be able to offer some advice as to how best organize my thoughts in a way that will allow someone to look at any legally actionable items for possible pro bono work.

What I have in mind is a meet & greet with someone who can draw out the information from me by asking me a series of questions designed to see just what my legal options are.

THANK YOU

Hi Jack,

The bad news is that the UCLAW Veterans Society has been defunct for a
couple of years, and I was never even a law student.  I was in a
different program (which is why I got the "outreach" position).

I'll see if I can find any current vets in law school who can take a
look at this, but it is way beyond my capabilities.

I'll see what I can find out for you.

-Mike

I will be on campus today nosing around from about 0900 to 1800, pretty much all day. My phone number is 20-jackwolf (205-225-9653). It is google voice so you can give that number to anyone who you think might be interested. You can also print out the email I sent you and post it or show it to anyone.

Thanks again.

No prob. I'm not on campus today myself, but I've already contacted a couple of folks to see if I can find some legal expertise.

Also note, though, that everyone who I had worked with a few years back is long gone. I don't have current contacts there, but I still know how to find people.

Super. I spoke with William Hamilton from the veterans resource office and he says he knows you and thinks you are a good guy for taking the time to do this. I went to the law school and started nosing around. I may post a notice on the board. Right now I am looking at faculty by area of expertise in the clinical legal education group. Sooner or later someone has got to know somebody who is willing to give it a go.

Thanks again.

JACK
