Hi everyone,

Here is something to watch for if you are using UniVerse on Windows 10. (OK - I know that most of you won't be doing this, but we have a number of single user installations of UV used by our regional managers).

The Windows 10 Creators Update (version 1703) seems to stop the UV tl_server.exe process from starting other executables. This includes any of the executables in the U2\UV\bin folder - such as nbasic.exe. i.e. you can't compile programs. Calls out to cmd.exe are also blocked. Therefore, you can't run the command:  DOS /C DIR from the command prompt (well, nothing happens when you do run this).

UV Shell doesn't seem to be affected ... but that is a pretty limited client.

We are on UV 11.2.4. I am unaware whether this affects 11.3.1 but there is nothing in the release notes to indicate a change of this significance.

So, if you are running UV on W10, then set your system to defer updates so that you don't get caught!

Cheers,

Brian

I ran into this too. Change your Universe Telnet Service "log on as"
setting from "local system" to "administrator" as a workaround. The
other Universe services don't need to be changed.

OK - We'll give that a try.

We rolled back the affected notebooks to version 1607 so we could continue operating. But that isn't a long term solution.

Cheers,

Brian
