Has anyone done any research with SMS text apps?

Has anyone done any research with SMS text apps to replace the Android Messages or Messages+ app?

Verizon says they are phasing out the app and now you have to go to Google Messages, but there are researchers reporting what they are hoping you will migrate to:

I don't trust the forced move. I would prefer someone credible (Norton, etc.) and their app (including a paid app).

Thanks for the response.

I noticed that if I attach a graphic to the text, the text message will be sent. Otherwise it won't, now that Verizon's MESSAGE+ app sunset date has been passed.
