Will have my copy on Friday, September 29th, 2023

Attempting to start an enormous, worldwide application.
It will eventually impact all HUMANITY on Earth.
Each of you already are cognizant of the application generically.
Each of you already knows the need, importance, and impact.

It must be non-profit as you will fully support when known.

Attempting to get it funded by the NUMBER ONE HUMANITARIAN on earth.

Please pray for us as the world's stability and future depends on it.

Thank you,

Bob.Fox

And for UK folk amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CJXDSNQJ
… working on ADDS/MENTOR as a developer circa 1982 and then Microdata/MDIS/NIS/NPS (now still going with a user base  under NEC at reality.necsws.com/history) from 1985 to 2017 at product systems level I saw Pick/Reality from 9 years after its first commercial release. So I completely know the phrase “best kept secret”. It took years to understand why this was so and folk like Gus tried hard to get it more widely known and adopted. I’d hoped the SMA standards would launch it like a rocket in the 1980’s, however, it was a complex story, one I’m looking forward to read.

So thanks for the post, ordered two days after publication and it’s due to arrive on my 66th Birthday this Sunday… :-)

Happy Birthday (for Sunday) Alan - and many happy returns.  My copy of the book arrives on Monday and I am rather excited.  Whilst I too no longer work in MultiValue, I do have 25 years of fond memories working within this 'secret' community.  Back in 1996, aged 18 and in my first job straight out of school I was working on an R91 system that I thought was 'ancient and on the way out'. Little did I know that 25 years later "Pick" would still be around and still running some pretty large and important IT systems all across the globe.

I'm looking forward to reading the book and learning even more about a technology that I will always have a deep fondness for.  Great technology, great applications and an even greater community.

Alan - you were a fantastic ambassador for a cruelly underrated product.  I have many fond memories of working with you in a supplier/customer context but if I had a time machine, or had my time again, I'd have made my move across to the other side of the table at least 10 years earlier.

Take care of yourself and have a great birthday weekend,

Darren W

Kind words indeed, thanks Darren,
I’d started my Computing career in 1978 working on an ‘old then’ NCR Century Mainframe that I only found out was basically a rebadged 1960’s Elliott 803 around 10 years ago. The small software house I started off in, being close to NCR, was real lucky to be introduced to their Mentor version of Pick. When I found out this high level commercial database and programming environment wasn’t new I was astonished. Hence, soon finding Reality/Pick and jumping abroad to help introduce software improvements and failsafe, networking, open hardware platforms… As we’ve both seen, Computing evolved at an ever increasing rate in hardware and software. So the fact that Reality/Pick gave us all long term careers and still continues is something we should all be proud of…
… all the best to you.

You started work in Computing in 1978...the year that I was born 😁
