Dear ScarletDME and MultiValue Community,

Are you currently working on the open-source ScarletDME code, or would you like to contribute to making it a production-ready, enterprise-grade database? If so, we want to hear from you!

ScarletDME has the potential to become a fully community-supported, open-source database that meets the needs of modern businesses. Many have reached out to ask if there is an up-to-date open-source MultiValue database alternative that offers robust support. With ScarletDME, the answer could be a resounding "yes"—but only if we come together to make it happen.

If you are interested in being part of this transformative effort, please visit the MultiValue World site, navigate to the User Groups section, and join the ScarletDME Steering Committee. Together, we can define the vision, prioritize features, and build a truly production-ready database system.

Let’s take ScarletDME to the next level and showcase the strength of our community. Your expertise, passion, and collaboration can make this a reality.

We look forward to your contributions and ideas. Let’s build something extraordinary together!

Best regards,
Jay LaBonte

Just a reminder that SD (the Multivalue String Database), which is a fork of ScarletDME, has been under active development for the last year.  We have audited much of the C and Basic code and have found some issues and corrected them.  We have made significant changes to increase the security of the database.  And an embedded Python subsystem will be added in version 0.9.  We have registered a new domain, stringdatabase.com, and will be working on online documentation for SD.  Version 0.9 will be out later this month (January 2025).  We are very interested in adding developers and documentation specialists to our effort.  While we have removed some features, such as PROCS, there is nothing that could not be added back in if there was interest in doing so.  Our focus has been on streamlining the system so that it is easier to maintain and document.  We have an installer for Ubuntu related distros that makes installation and upgrading of the system very easy.  You can contact us at sd.string.database at gmail dot com for now.  We will be adding email accounts to the stringdatabase.com domain in the near future. (git clone https://github.com/stringdatabase/sdb64 to clone the last release, git clone -b dev https://github.com/stringdatabase/sdb64 to clone the development version).

Certainly! Here's the revised reply incorporating your points:

I fully support the idea of creating a community-supported database for MultiValue, whether it’s building on ScarletDME, StringDB, or even some hybrid solution. It’s not about the specific model—it’s about bringing the community together to create something powerful and enduring.

Remember when Linux started? Many dismissed it as a small project that would never succeed in business, yet today it stands as the number one UNIX system. There’s no reason a MultiValue database, backed by a dedicated and collaborative community, couldn’t achieve similar success. Together, we have the knowledge, talent, and drive to build something truly transformative. Let’s make it happen!
