As more development shifts the user interface to the web browser, one of the hassles is knowing the level of support various browsers offer for features such as HTML5, CSS3, SVG, etc.  The following website provides compatibility tables and allows customizable comparisons between various desktop and mobile browsers.  It's really quite useful.

Also, check out JQuery, where you don't really need to know which browser or level. It will
attempt to do any cross browser coding for you.

I agree that jQuery is a great JavaScript library that does indeed help abstract away some of the problems with cross-browser JavaScript implementation.  However, its scope is quite different and much more narrow than that of http://caniuse.com.

I use modernizr to detect html5 functionality within the javascript code.

I use jquery to provide cross a browser framework

I don’t support ie6 (recent decision)

Another interesting (for fee) service for testing your application on multiple browsers across multiple platforms looks interesting as well.

I'm not sure if this is relevant but... I use Firefox. Some sites I visit insist I use IE. For various historical reasons I won't go into I am loathe to use IE - so... I have the "IE Tab" add-on. I just right click their web page and select "Show page in IE". Simply allows me to stick with FF.

Hi Mike,

I saw this, and was excited because I've been having the same problem and it's driving me nuts. I use FF 18.0 and installed IE Tab 4.12.22.2. We can take this off-list if you want, but others may be interested.

I tried to use IE Tab with my online store forum https://forum.bigcommerce.com. The login page has radio buttons which don't show in FF 18.0. They do in IE8, and did with IE Tab, but Roboform no longer works. I click the taskbar icon and nothing happens. I have the IE Tab box checked to run it with Firefox.exe in order for Roboform to work, but still no joy.

Also, as it does every time I try this page in IE, I got a Security Alert popup 14 times before the page fully displayed. The popup said "The security certificate was issued by a company you have not chosen to trust.". When asked "Do you want to proceed?", I click "Yes". How do I go about setting up a trusted company? I have installed the certificate (more than once). I get certificate errors on other things, especially using IE8, as well as WebDAV, and have never been able to pin it down. I've gotten them with IE, and not with FF on the same website. I think the certificate issue may have something to do with some setting or missing software on my computer, since others I've talked to don't run into it in the exact same scenarios, but I'll be danged if I know what they are. This is what I see when I View Certificate":
Security Alert > View Certificate
Certificate > General > Certificate Information
This certificate cannot be verified up to a trusted certification authority.
Issued to:  *.mybigcommerce.com
Issued by:  DigiCert High Assurance CA-3
Valid from: 07-12-2012 to 09-02-2015
Certificate > Certification Path
DigiCert High Assurance CA-3
  *.mybigcommerce.com

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have IE Tab disabled until I can figure out how to use it without killing Roboform.

Thanks,
Charlie

For the cert in internet options choose the content tab, then certificates then the untrusted tab – is the provider in there for some reason ?

Btw the radio buttons do not display in chrome either I think It is because you have the input elements inside the label, they should siblings.

First, let me say that what I know about certificates could fit in a thimble with plenty of room to spare. I saw that bigcommerce.com isn't in Untrusted Publishers, but it is in Other People. I exported and imported to Trusted Publishers. Should I remove it from Other People?

Now when I go there in IE8 with IE Tabs disabled I get this (always did):
There is a problem with this website's security certificate.
The security certificate presented by this website was not issued by a trusted certificate authority.
Security certificate problems may indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept any data you send to the server.
We recommend that you close this webpage and do not continue to this website.

Continue to this website (not recommended).
     More information

There were a number of entries in Untrusted Publishers I didn't put there. Are they automatically loaded when IE installs?

Even with all this, when I enabled  IE Tabs again I got the Security Alert popups again, and Roboform didn't work. I'm no worse off than I was to start with, but no better either. :'(

Thanks,
Charlie

I forgot to mention that the radio buttons are in BigCommerce's code, not mine. I'll pass along your suggestion to them, but with their history, it will be somewhere between 2015 and never before they actually do anything about it. Their programmers don't seem to be too swift, and most of their support people (with a few notable exceptions) are as useless as ..... (fill in your favorite phrase).

Look to see if "DigiCert High Assurance CA-3" or "GTE CyberTrust" (who certifies DigiCert) is in that untrusted list.  You have to trust all of the certificate authorities in the chain in order to not get that warning.  If one of those guys is explicitly "untrusted" OR if they are not on the list of trusted authorities, you going to get a certificate error.

You trust BigCommerce and DigiCert certifies that BigCommerce is who they claim to be.  GTE certifies that DigiCert is who they claim to be.  If you don't trust everyone in the chain,
it is no good.

...yeah, that sounds right ...  :)
