Dear Task Force,

SUSTAINABLE MOUNTAIN VIEW PHOTO SHARING

I have started a public photo sharing group on Flickr called "Sustainable Mountain View, California" where anyone can share their environmental sustainability images of Mountain View:

PHOTOS FOR FINAL REPORT

I have seeded the photo group with some of my images. As many of you know, I am a photographer and run the Green Stock Media photo agency (http://www.greenstockmedia.com). I am happy to offer any of my photos free for use in the Task Force's final report (this does not include photos from other photographers that I represent at Green Stock Media, sorry). All I require is that the photos are credited in the report as Mike Kahn/Green Stock Media. The Flickr photos I have posted are low-resolution and watermarked. To request a high-resolution version of a photo for the final report please email me with the link to the photo(s) you'd like.

I also have a large archive of photos of the Mountain View area and beyond that are not currently online. If you don't see the image online, I am happy to see if I have an appropriate shot for the final report in my archive.

MORE ON THE SUSTAINABLE MOUNTAIN VIEW PHOTO GROUP

The Sustainable Mountain View photo group was started as a way to educate the public and encourage community participation on local sustainability issues. This is a grassroots effort. I am currently the admin for the group but others can become admins or moderators as well. Let me know if you are interested.

For those that aren't familiar with it, Flickr is more or less the most popular community photo sharing website out there. It's free for the general service and only $24 a year for a pro account, required if you want to upload more than 100 MB a month. Pro accounts are free if you have AT&T Yahoo internet service.

As described on the site, the group is for "Images of Mountain View, California that show environmental sustainability issues, both positive and negative. Relevant topics include climate change, transportation, water, building, energy, waste, recycling, land use, biodiversity, natural ecosystems, open space, quality of life, green business, environmental education, and more."

Please check out the photo group, post comments on photos, and most importantly post some photos!

LEGAL REMINDER

Please note that it is not legal to download photos from any website for use in any publication unless the owner of the photo consents. Flickr allows users to reserve all legal rights to a photo or to use a Creative Commons copyright that allows people to use the photos for specific purposes. Always look at the copyright before using a photo, and if you are unsure of restrictions ask permission. For those of you worried about people using your photos without permission it is best to upload only low-resolution images and watermark them with photo editing software if you can.

Best,
Mike
