Here is an e-mail I received from Berkeley's version of Steve Attinger
(Timothy Burroughs). I encourage you to explore their web site and to
be bold when you craft your Working Group's recommendations.

Subject: Berkeley Climate Action Update
Hello! We wanted to take a moment to share some upcoming events with
you and to provide an update on Berkeley's Climate Action Plan...
First, thanks to all of you who provided comments on the draft Climate
Action Plan. Many community members took the opportunity to weigh in
on the plan at various community workshops, at meetings organized by
local community-based organizations, and on the web at www.BerkeleyClimateAction.org.
What was the main message we heard? BE BOLD! From the responses we
received, it is clear that the Berkeley community is ready to do what
it takes to address climate change at the local level. City Council
was pleased to hear your feedback when City staff presented a summary
of public comments at a Council workshop in April.
For a summary of the comments we received please visit www.BerkeleyClimateAction.org.
Climate Action Plan Next Steps:
City staff is currently revising the draft Climate Action Plan. A
revised plan will be delivered for Council consideration in September
2008. We will send an update when the date of that meeting is
confirmed. This next version of the plan will contain specific
implementation steps and an implementation timeline.
Upcoming Events:
The Carbon Free Home
Authors Stephen and Rebekah Hren weaned themselves from fossil fuels
in their conventional 1930's urban house. Their new book provides a
map for others to do the same. The Hrens will give a presentation and
sign books.
When: July 3, 2008 from 7-9pm
Where: Ecology Center, 2530 San Pablo Ave.
Do you have other upcoming events related to the climate change
issue? We're happy to help publicize local events on our website at
www.BerkeleyClimateAction.org. Send us an email at MeasureG @
ci.berkeley.ca.us.
Take Action:
The "Low Carbon Diet" is a fun and effective program that will show
you, step by step, how to dramatically reduce your CO2 output in just
a month's time. To learn more or to get involved with a local Low
Carbon Diet team contact Linda Currie at lcurriedesign @ aol.com.
Visit www.BerkeleyClimateAction.org to calculate your carbon footprint
and track your progress. Just scroll over the "Take Action" tab and
then click on "Carbon Calculators."
Feel free to contact us with questions and ideas anytime at MeasureG @

Thanks!
