Hello GMV members:
Please pay special attention to help-needed
announcements and seriously consider volunteering for them, as it is
through these activities that Green Mountain View will be most
successful.
Bye for now, and stay tuned!

*****************
Since Green Mountain View began, we have intended
to establish a single-use shopping bags reduction project to include
one or more related programs (e.g., public education and outreach,
reusable bags distribution, partnering with the City,
etc.)
Lori Topley, the Solid Waste Program Manager for
the City of Mountain View, recently submitted a draft
"Single-Use, Carry-Out Bags" report to the Council
Environmental Sustainability Committee (CESC) (see
http://groups.google.com/group/greenmountainview/web/SingleUseBags-StaffReport.pdf), and, while the report is being reviewed and
discussed, this is an opportune moment for us to determine Green
Mountain View's role in the City's process, and what we might do
independently to best complement the City's activities.
Lori would like to meet with a core group of us
to start the City/GMV discussion ("I think we should meet very
soon to have a discussion about how we can collaborate on the bag
issue. I'd love to have sort of an overall plan in place before
you actually spend money on bags and distribute them. However,
before I can implement anything in conjunction with GMV, I need to run
the plan by the Council, as was discussed at the Committee
meeting.")
Accordingly, please get in touch with me
asap if you are interested in one or more of the
following:
- Participating in (at least) the initial meeting
with Lori (for this, before the end of day, Sunday, December 13th,
please)
- Helping to develop a Green Mountain View Bags
Reduction Project plan
- Volunteering to lead or become a member of the
GMV Bags Reduction Project
Thanks for considering this important
project,
Bruce England
