Is the proposed taxi code for MV missing emissions standards?...

Hello all:

I've just read through the proposed amendment to the taxicab ordinance for Mountain View, which will be introduced to City Council next Tuesday. As you can see (below and attached) in Section 30.5, there is nothing stated about ensuring that the cabs are maintained such that high emissions are prevented or kept to a minimum. Do you think we should ask for this? And, if so, what exactly should we ask for, in your opinion?

Hi Bruce,

 

As you may recall, one of the suggestions in our Task Force Transport Report (not an actual rec, but in our list of suggestions) was that taxi permit prices vary depending upon the gas mileage the taxi gets, i.e., the higher the mileage, the lower the price. Even if there's virtually no chance the council would act upon it, I think it would be good to bring it up for educational purposes as well as for letting them know we're being vigilant. I'm not free on Tuesday nights myself but hope someone else can go to raise this issue.
