The mayors of San Jose, Oakland, and San Francisco, together with Governor Schwarzengger announced a partnership with Project Better Place to install electric car infrastructure in their cities. The infrastructure consists of fast charging stations and battery exchange stations so people can drive through and exchange batteries without having to stop and charge. Project Better Place has partnerships with Renault and Nissan to build cars that allow battery exchange, and ongoing projects in Israel and Denmark to install infrastructure and ultimately sell cars. Too bad this announcement wasn't made several months ago, we could have included a recommendation in the transportation report that Mountain View also become a participant.

PS: I've had my Hymotion L5 pluggable Prius for about 4 weeks and it is getting around 70 mpg long term average. When the battery is full, I get about 20 mi. range around town in all electric mode driving or 40 mi. on the freeway when the engine comes on frequently. Of course, it doesn't look as *cool* as Bruce's Zap, but I can drive it Santa Cruz on the weekends. :-)

Hi James,
I forwarded your message to Ronit Bryant who I hope will share it with her fellow sub-committee members.
