THE QUEST FOR SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITIES: ASSEMBLYMEMBER JONES TAKES AIM
AT LAND USE AND TRANSPORTATION PLANNING

Two bills by Assemblymember Dave Jones/Sacramento that fight global
warming and air pollution through better land use planning will be
considered in the next two weeks by Senate policy committees.

AB 2093 requires local governments to incorporate global warming into
their General Plan through a greenhouse gas emission inventory,
emission reduction targets, and an implementation schedule.

AB 842 requires Regional Transportation Plans to reduce the growth of
vehicle miles traveled (VMT) by ten percent. Reducing VMT will benefit
air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions while minimizing
traffic congestion and urban sprawl.

To learn how you can build local support for these bills, as well as
actions you can take to change local decision making, contact PCL's
Global Warming Program Manager Matt Vander Sluis and ask about our
Local Climate Action Initiative.
