Hi All,

Don Weden is an outstanding speaker with in-depth knowledge of the planning process -- he worked in the field for more than 30 years before retiring.

Please attend the meeting next Monday if you can -- it's sure to be very informative.

Cheers,
Bruce Karney

Subj: Housing Elements and Climate Change

Hi, Bruce,

I'm writing to tell you about an event you may already know about.

The League of Women Voters of the Los Altos - Mountain View Area has
organized an event dealing with the current updating of the housing
elements of our cities' general plans. The event will be held on the
evening of Monday, January 26th from 7:00-9:00 pm in the Mountain View
City Council Chambers. Admission is free.

They have asked me to be one of the speakers that evening. In addition
to providing a brief overview of the housing element update process, I
will be emphasizing that local housing element updates provide an
important opportunity not only to address housing issues, but also to
address a variety of other critical changes and challenges that will
be affecting our future for decades to come -- including climate
change, the aging of our population, the end of cheap oil, population
growth, the need to make public transit more viable, the need to
reduce total vehicle miles traveled, etc.

Some of these are issues that the Mountain View Environmental
Sustainability Task Force has been working to address.

If you think that some of the Task Force members might be interested
in attending, please feel free to pass along the attached flyer.

Thank you for all your hard work with the Task Force.

Don

Bruce,

Thanks for letting us know about Don.  I have heard him speak and he is excellent.  However, the next meeting of the CESC is on the same night which is an unfortunate coincidence.

Regarding the "Housing Element and everything else!" presentation by Don
Weden on January 26, 7-9, please note that it immediately follows the CESC
meeting, which is 5-7. The CESC meeting was actually set up NOT to be at
the same time, so that everyone gets to go to both! (No provisions for
dinner, last I heard, but at least the meetings are sequential rather than
parallel. We've overcome at least part of the unfortunate coincidence.)

Julie
