Solar Thermal Course in Hopland Nov. 7

The Solar Living Institute in Hopland (north of Santa Rosa) is giving a course on solar thermal running from Nov. 7 through Nov. 9. The course is pretty extensive and is designed for contractors who install solar thermal. I've signed up for it because I want to understand solar thermal more even though I'm not intending to install a system, but apparently, they are having trouble getting enough people to sign up and may cancel the course.

If you are interested in learning more about solar thermal, you might want to consider signing up. I've attached a more detailed course description below.

RE 211: Solar Water Heating Intensive
Nov 7-9 2008, 9am-5pm

Learn how you can save money by providing most of your hot water needs with free energy from the sun. This workshop will cover the topics outlined in RE 111 (below), and will also include a intensive hands-on component where you will apply the knowledge outlined in RE 111, focusing on installation techniques and safety considerations.


Both RE 111 and RE 211 will cover:

    * Design and Installation of solar hot water systems
    * Assessing the solar water heating capacity of a site
    * Financial payback analysis
    * Hot water systems, pool/spa/hot tub systems, and space heating
    * Design issues such as collector location, orientation, tilt, & storage volume
    * Code compliance
    * How to select the right contractor
