Talk: Reducing Dependence on Fossil Fuels
Thursday, August 14 2008 @ 07:30 PM
Unitarian Universalist Church of Palo Alto
505 E. Charleston Rd
Palo Alto

Description: The Green Sanctuary Committee of UUCPA will sponsor a talk illustrated by power point images on Thursday, August 14 at 7:30 PM, in the Main Hall, on generation of electricity from solar power to be given by John O'Donnell, Executive Vice President of Ausra of Palo Alto. Ausra manufactures a solar thermal system that delivers low cost electricity at prices competitive with gas-fired generation. The system includes energy storage, providing reliable operation into the evening hours and overnight. Ausra has a contract with PG&E to build a 177 megawatt installation in San Luis Obispo County. A study by Ausra shows that this system can deliver over 90% of California's grid energy with similar findings for the national US grid. Plan to attend this informative event.

Thanks Bruce.

I would have missed this and think it may be well worth attending.

Solar Thermal Energy has such potential and faces so few road blocks
that it is causing serious distress to those who would prefer we stick
to using their old school, polluting methods of energy production. As
the potential of Solar Thermal becomes more well known, we can expect
the PR against it to heat up. Being well informed on the subject will
help us through clod water on those who think more highly of their
current bank account then of future generations.
