Last April I contacted my local Assemblyman, Paul Fong, and asked him
to make it possible for renters, condo owners, and others to lease
solar panels located on solar farms and offset all or part of their
electric usage via remote net metering. Essentially, this would give
every residential electric customer in the state the same access to
leased solar that homeowners have enjoyed for the last 2 years.
Last month Mr. Fong introduced my bill (AB 1947). It is slated to be
heard in the Assembly Committee on Utilities and Commerce on March 22.
See http://info.sen.ca.gov/pub/09-10/bill/asm/ab_1901-1950/ab_1947_bill_20100217_introduced.html
for text of the bill. This is a "spot bill," essentially a placeholder
to which more precise legislative language will be attached in the
future.
I hope you will take a few moments to call, write or e-mail your
Assembly member in support of the bill. If it passes, I predict a
transformation of the solar market in California. It's good for
electricity consumers AND good for the planet!
Cheers,
Bruce Karney
