Hi all,
This website is a useful resource for looking up Santa Clara County level information on various pollution indicator, and on how we stack up against other counties in the US. It covers the following topics: Toxics, Air, Water, Env Justice, and Health Hazards. Typing in a MV zipcode will bring up Santa Clara info. It provides the following data:
- Toxics: shows top polluters, top chemicals released, Superfund sites, lead in houses
- Air: smog, soot, health risks
- Water: water quality, compliance with Clean Water Act, animal waste
- Env Justice:: combines env data with census data to id the burden on different demographic
- Health Hazards:
The site was originally built by the Environmental Defense Fund, using governmental data, that corporations have to submit according to various pollution and environmental laws. Due to funding limitation, EDF transferred the ownership free of charge to a non-profit called the GreenMedia Toolshed.
Hope this is useful.
PS: I am personally interested in hearing feedback on what are the pros
and cons people see w.r.t. to such this site, for a school-related
project, so if you feel like it, please drop me an email with
comments.
