Hi Guys. I want to control my projector (Viewsonic PJD 7820HD) by RS232. I am testing yet Creation Workshop and also terminal putty. Port COM is properly set. It seems to me, that problem is with cables connection. I have Unitek RS232 (male) to USB converter [http://www.unitek-products.com/en/product_detail.php?id=12] and null RS232 cable (with two females ports RS232), because projector has female port. I have tried RS232 females cables with crossover and without. Nothing help. Do you think only way to control projector is using RS232 (female) to USB converter?

Greetings,
Dominik

Putty is likely not going to help you, since the projector isn't really a terminal. It just works on raw binary data, so it's kind of a pain to test outside of CW.

It's been awhile since I've used CW, having switched to NanoDLP (which I highly recommend), and, as I recall, that did NOT need a null modem cable with my USB converter, but DID with the onboard serial (I think the USB one was internally crossed over). But, I do have a USB converter similar to what you have, and I connected it with a female to female straight through cable, and it worked fine. So, that should be the right cable.

Dominik,

It would be best to use an adaptor that does not require any additional cables, so yes the USB to female RS232 directly to the projector. We too have noticed some issues with using cables or male/female adaptors.

With that being said, we have not had issues with any of the USB to female RS232 adaptors we've tried. They all seem to work fine.

I have noticed that, after having power removed and reapplied, the projector needs to be turned on via the remote once before the commands work. If you then turn it off via RS232, then On/Off works reliably. I don't know if it works if you turn it off with the remote or not.

Thank You Guys for Your suggestions. Matthew, I am currently switching to NANO DLP and before this I have wanted to check my RS232 cable connections. Unfortunately nothing help (I check via remote turning on and then turn off via RS232 and it did not work). It looks like that I should buy new, one cable converter: RS232 (with female slot) to USB.

Greetings,
Dominik
