nanoDLP now supports STL processing! You no longer have to convert your files to SVG using Slic3r making nanoDLP a one-stop-shop.

The beta needs to be installed manually. If you're not comfortable doing this please wait until the final is released as this will be made available over auto-update.

To install the beta:

-SSH into your RPi over your local network and log in

-Install the beta with the following command:

(wget http://www.nanodlp.com/nanodlp.beta.tar.gz -O - | tar -C /home/pi -xz);cd /home/pi/printer;sudo ./setup.sh muve3d

Once installed you can immediately try to upload STL files. STLs are added the same way that SVG files are added, simply create a new plate and select your STL file instead of SVG, SLC, etc.

The software still does not list STL in approved files, however it will work. You'll only see SLC, SVG, or Zip listed but this can be ignored. Limitations on STL file size are currently about 300-400MB, but we would love to hear your feedback.

Enjoy!

How does the plating work? Does it just auto-center it?

Sounds Great Dean and Co!

Assuming we jsut design our own rafts and supports and save that file as STL.  Does it know which way is up?

Matthew,

As far as we're informed thus far, yes.

Elliot,

It assumes the way the part is oriented as it is saved, it doesn't reorient anything during the import.

WOOOOW this is huge thing guys! Finally I can get the Slic3r out of my process :) Its not that I dont like Slic3r, I really do but my process is first Solidworks, then Mesh mixer, then Slicer and then NanoDLP... Its a little bit too much... Cant wait for the final version! Im really interested to try it :)

Keep up the good work!

Cheers!
Tom

trying out the stl slicing in nano-dlp now  finally got around to it, to night
Slicing is a little slow but I am slicing on a rasp-pi so its to be expected

any work on if there might be some shelling settings in the future

Need to see if it does supports also
Just doing a Parametric Gyro Cude for the trial

looks like no support option but you can add supports in CW save the stl then up it to nano and slice if you want
faster to have CW just create the PNG files for you but its a option

also and more about nano than anything

I dont know why I was fixated on my pc using nano, I kept running back and forth from the printer to the pc to tweak a few things when all I had
to do was just pull out one of my trusty tablets set it next to the printer and make the changes.

Yea thats what happens when you work 7 days a week

Colen,

Don't forget about Autodesk MeshMixer as well! It does an excellent job of orienting parts, creating supports, hollowing parts, etc. And with such a large company behind their algorithms the software is pretty quick on most computers.

Enjoy all the new features!
