The kids are alright.
The first team earnt a hard fough draw with a strong Kings Head team. First to finish were our two debutants: Stanley drew quickly with their substitute who outgraded him by 600 points, this was then followed by Nishchal impressively converting a pawn advantage in a Catalan ending.
At this point, the last four matches went to the wire, with Muswell Hill looking on the worser end. Alecos succumbed to a classic Birds opening (1.f4) against Richard Mcmichael and I followed by blundering a rook sac that either mated or won my queen.
However, Frankie managed to turn the tide in time trouble, his queen collecting white's loose pieces. Dan managed to hold a rook ending 2 pawns down when black places himself in a positional twist, allowing a sort of fortress where black can not keep both pawns to progress.
The result leaves Muswell Hill on 3.5/5 and in a strong position for first spot. Next match is away to Hammersmith on Tuesday 15th March.
All the best,
Simon
