Since so many people are jumping to contribute material, why dont we
brainstorm short term improvements we can make to the Musopen site,
since these resources will be used eventually anyways.

The site is rapidly growing in google search results, often ending up
as the first or second result, so I think it makes sense that it
expands as a first rate free resource to keep up.

One area of improvement is that we have a very small sheet music site
right now, what about adding fingering charts, blank scores,
instructional materials?
Id love to see per instrument instructions as well, it can be as
simple or vast as we want, youtube videos, short musical excerpts etc,
or just a short document.

Please let me know other ideas you have, if it makes I get our
engineers to build it.

Great Idea...

I have made a few basic test/quizzes for my students, different for
each student, and I could whip up some more pretty easy. These would
again cover the fundamentals/chapter one things I am working on.

Does 20 quizzes/homeworks per topic sound like a good start? I will
also up load black staff paper of various types... I found that to be
the most common request in my classes thus far. Seems odd, given all
that is already out there, but I like the idea of this site becoming a
"one stop shop" if you will.

I'll have that up tomorrow.

Cheers to Julian for the interval uploads as well.

I have added a few things to our shared box.net site

1. Blank Staff Paper (Piano, SATB, Piano and Voice, and 12 Staff with
no clef)
2. Added 20 example/practice sheets of pitch naming (10 no acc, 10
with acc)... more basic to come

Also completed two basic tests in flash for practice as well. They
are on my website...

http://myweb.wssu.edu/judsonte/bm/docs.html

Quizzes 1 and 2

both just tests for now... 10 random questions out of 44 notes

Also, I hope to have Chapter 1 fleshed out more this week after my
students have a chance to give me some feedback.

Cheers,
Tohm

Thanks Tohm,

Does anyone else have material they can contribute? Im going to add
scales/fingerings to the sheet music part of musopen this week, I can
use any other materials people have or can make.

Suggestions of what formats to include beyond just PDF or maybe thats
enough?

Hi Aaron,

I suggest doing all graphics in PNG format for bitmaps and (if
possible) retaining EPS or SVG vector formats for internal use. It's
easy to rasterize vectors using ImageMagick, and the vectors will be
extremely useful for future work, such as changing resolution for the
website or publishing in paper format.

Kind regards,

Albert

I like using the PNG as well... The ones I have posted (in haste) are
PSD and very easy to batch convert over to PNG. I'll see if I can get
to that as well this weekend
