Hello there.

I just tried dm3 and was very pleased by how good the musikServer
already works. Simple and fast. However, I'd like to know what further
features are planned for the musikServer. What I like to see is a way
to define which users have access to what libraries on the server. For
instance, I'd like to create 3 folders on the server, each with
different music in it and then I'd like to allow only one user to use
folder 1 for his remote library and another user to use folder 2 and
maybe another use to use all 3 etc.

Will there be anything like this in the final version?

Hi

Nice to see that you like our development efforts :)
There probably won't be a feature to be able to share different
folders the way you mention. Although you may be able to share
different libraries and share them to different users in the final
version.
The reason isn't that it's very hard to make this kind of
functionallity, but rather that the queries made to the database are
the exact same queries that you make to a local library, and there
isn't much use in setting access to different folders on a local
library. There is also a overhead in checking the users access all the
time that can slow down the queries.

This does not mean that there won't be a feature like this in the
future, I think it just comes down to finding a developer that is
interrested enough to develop it.
mC2 still has a long way left before we will see a final version :)

Ah, well yes, it doesn't have to be directly tied to folders. Sharing
multiple libraries that consist of different synchronized paths would
make more sense :).

Oh and another thing: are you planning on storing Playlists also on
the musikServer? Having access to the (or your) library from any place
you want (at least on the LAN) is one thing, but usually you would
like to have your playlists too.

And are there plans to make the musikServer able to stream the library
also over the web? Yesterday I tried connecting to a remote library on
my server over the web, but couldn't really play a song.

Yes, playlists will also be available when playing through the
musikServer.

You should be able to do so already, but it's not that clear that you
need to open up 2 different ports to do so (one for querying and one
for streaming). Have a look at this wiki page for more info about what
ports to open up/forward:
http://code.google.com/p/musikcube/wiki/musikServer
There is currently no way to configure to use different ports. But you
will be able to do that later :)
