Dear David,

I'm getting an error trying to install the Music Processing Suite into an existing Eclipse Instance:

Cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found.
Software being installed: Music Processing Suite 1.2.1 (eu.hfm.mps.feature.feature.group 1.2.1)
Missing requirement: Music Processing Suite 1.2.1 (eu.hfm.mps.feature.feature.group 1.2.1) requires 'org.eclipse.equinox.p2.iu; org.elysium.feature.feature.group 0.0.0' but it could not be found

I'm using the latest version of Eclipse, 2018-12.

Sincerely,
Viktor

Hi Viktor,

welcome to the mailing list and thank you for reporting the issue.
I could reproduce the problem with Eclipse 2018-12. I am preparing a release in which the update site will hopefully be fixed. I will inform you here when it's ready.

Best regards
Dave

Hi Viktor,

MPS 1.2.2 was just released. This version can be installed into an existing Eclipse instance by adding the following 3 update sites under Help -> Install New Software:

After adding all 3 update sites, you can install MPS using the last one. Please let me know if it works for you.

I will try to improve the installation process into existing Eclipse instances in future versions, so that everything can be installed using the MPS update site only.

Best
Dave

Dear Dave,

I've succesfully installed the latest version of MPS into Eclipse but am still encountering some problems (that I do not encounter in the standalone package of MPS)

"Generate Context Tree Model Graph" works as it should but it gets stuck on "Generate Context Layer Model". It shows the Progress bar but nothing happens (I have to force close the IDE to restart it - it says: "The user operation is waiting for background work to complete." - not 100% certain if this is a comment on initiating the "GCLM" process). In the standalone package this works without any problem. All other actions work without error ("Generate Score", "Generate Analysis Report", etc.). Btw, I am on Windows 7 64 bit, running the Eclipse Java IDE.

Sincerely,
Viktor

Hi Viktor,

thanks for reporting this. I was also able to reproduce the problem. The reason for the hangup is a LinkageError in the SVG library (Batik), so I am afraid the version provided on the update site is not compatible with new Eclipse versions anymore. I will investigate and try to fix it as soon as possible.

Best
Dave

Dear Dave,

Thanks! I look forward to using it inside Eclipse and in the meanwhile will use the standalone version. Congratulations on creating such a wonderful music package!

Sincerely,
Viktor

Dear Viktor,

thank you very much, I am glad that you like MPS and hope that it is useful to you.

Thanks to your report I was able to fix two bugs: one related to the SVG library access and a threding issue which caused a deadlock in your case. Both bugs are fixed in version 1.2.3, which I just released.
If you install MPS 1.2.3 using the above mentioned update site, the SVG generation should work again (and even if it doesn't, you should see a proper error message instead of a hangup). I just tested it with a fresh Eclipse 2018-12 installation and it worked for me. Please let me know if for some reason it does not work in your Eclipse.

In the long run, I am planning to release MPS completely based on a new Eclipse version (i.e. 2018-12 or even 2019-03).

Best regards
Dave

A small addition: Instead of the update site posted above, which is specialized for Eclipse Oxygen, you can also use the one specialized for Eclipse 2018-12, which is:

A complete list of available Orbit update sites can be found here: https://download.eclipse.org/tools/orbit/downloads/

Dear Dave,

I just did a clean install of Eclipse 2018-12 and MPS and everything is working without error, fantastic! I do have to mention though that when I used my previous installation and tried to update it there was an error, so I will keep an eye out if that happens with the next update too.

Again congratulations on the wonderful software, I'm sure I will be using it a lot (including the SuperCollider features).

Sincerely,
Viktor
