Call for Papers - Edited volume: European Popular Music.

Contributions are sought for an edited book on contemporary European Popular Music. Proposals for this single volume of essays should cover, though are not limited to, the following themes:-

1. Conditions affecting European popular music production at a local, national and supranational level.
2. Representations of localised cultures and / or �Europeanness�.
3. Cultural responses to local popular music.
4. Opportunities and limitations on popular music transcending national and local boundaries.
5. Eurovision within European cultural and identity politics vis-�-vis changes to the European Union.
6. Images of Europe, nationality and homeland in the productions of diasporic communities.
7. Issues of cultural expansion, population movement and immigration pertinent to cultural production and relation within the European continent.
8. Technical advances bringing challenges to consumption practices and patterns in Europe.
9. Operating differences for cultural industries managing domestic and overseas competition.
10. Industry concerns and attitudes to music production in Europe.
11. Broadcasting issues affecting the dissemination and promotion of local popular music.
12. Historical reflections and influences on the development of popular music within Europe.

Deadline for Proposals: December 1st 2009.

Deadline for Completed Articles: May 1st 2010.

Review Process: May � July.

On acceptance, completed essays should be ca. 8000 words. Up to a maximum of 3 illustrations may be included, however, contributors will be responsible for securing and paying for reproduction and copyright permissions, licenses and fees for any such illustrations. Papers should follow The MLA Style Manual (3rd ed.) for in-text, endnote and bibliographical referencing. Abstracts and Full Papers must be submitted electronically in a Microsoft Word file, though illustrations can be sent separately (with suitable links to approximate positioning subject to editorial and publishing requirements).
