The New Zealand School of Music is committed to the idea of music as an essential human activity that powerfully informs our contemporary social interactions and multiple identifications. The field of expertise required for this position is open and may be grounded in a number of areas: creative, critical, performative, theoretical, technological, or historical. Whilst the field of expertise remains flexible, the applicant should have a wide-ranging perspective on music and musical culture from the twentieth century until the present day.
The successful applicant will teach four courses, two in each semester, as follows:
- the yearly compulsory introductory course on music in contemporary life
- the same, taught as a distance course via a combination of video conference, online teaching, and pre-recorded lectures
- an undergraduate course on popular music
- an upper undergraduate/graduate seminar on a contemporary music topic reflecting the research interests of the applicant
S/he may also be called on to supervise graduate research projects in related fields, engage actively with the programme, and assist in other areas as needed.
The successful candidate will have completed or nearly completed PhD or DMA and will have teaching experience at university level
