*Graduate Studies in Musicology at Utrecht University*

The Research Group Musicology in the Department of Media and Culture Studies, Faculty of Humanities, University of Utrecht (Netherlands) offers two attractive M.A. degrees in Music:

*Musicology (Research MA, 2 years, full-time)* (http://www.uu.nl/masters/en/musicology) and

*Applied Musicology (MA, 1 year, full-time)* (http://www.uu.nl/masters/en/applied-musicology)

Students in the Research MA in Musicology are selected from an international pool of applicants for their potential for research excellence. Graduates of the program successfully compete each year for PhD positions and have entered doctoral programs at UC Berkeley, UCLA, University of Toronto, University of Cambridge, Royal Holloway, Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics Frankfurt am Main, Catholic University Leuven, and Utrecht University. Alumni hold university teaching posts and prestigious post-doctoral fellowships in the United States, the UK, and the Netherlands.

Students in the innovative one-year course Applied Musicology are selected for their potential and willingness to acquire the specific knowledge and skills required to operate successfully as a musicologist within the international music industry. The MA in Applied Musicology is designed in direct dialogue with top institutions within the musical infrastructure in the Netherlands and beyond; it does not discriminate between classical and popular music. Students receive intensive mentoring while developing research and reflective skills relevant to questions in contemporary music production, programming, financing and participation.

Both programs are conducted in English throughout—unique among Continental European programs.
