The University of North Texas College of Music and the Division of Music History, Theory and Ethnomusicology invite applications for a tenure-track position in music history specializing in music of any kind before 1750 at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in August 2024. The Division encourages applications from candidates who will contribute to the division through teaching, research, and service. We are a collegial group of scholars who seek to complement our current pool of expertise.
Duties will include:
Research: maintain a dynamic scholarly profile through research and peer-reviewed publications on any musical tradition or repertoire before 1750.
Teaching: recruit, retain, and mentor graduate students in musicology; teach and develop graduate seminars in music history that complement existing course offerings and reflect the candidates’ expertise; teach period courses (pre-1400, 1400-1600, 1600-1700) at the Master’s level; teach undergraduate courses, including the pre-1750 Western music history survey; opportunities to teach seminars for the Bachelor of Arts in Critical Studies in Music and Society; serve on graduate advisory committees (MA, PhD, and DMA).
Service: participate on divisional/college/university committees; serve on committees and boards of appropriate professional organizations; perform other duties as assigned by the Division and/or College.
Minimum Qualifications
PhD in musicology or a related discipline at time of appointment
Demonstrated potential for research in musicology
Demonstrated excellence in college-level teaching either as a faculty member or graduate teaching assistant
Strong commitment to and evidence of collegiality
Preferred Qualifications
Engagement with emerging methodologies that complement those of current music history faculty
Peer-reviewed publication record
Interest in securing funding for – and developing – innovative, creative, and transformative research projects through UNT’s own initiatives and external sources
Interest in contributing to UNT’s BA in Critical Studies in Music and Society
