Queens College (CUNY): MA in Musicology and MA in Music Theory
The Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College (CUNY) invites applicants for the two-year MA degree in Musicology and the two-year MA in Music Theory. These degrees provide an exceptional foundation in graduate study. As the nation’s premier urban public university, the City University of New York offers a quality education at an affordable price. Masters’ programs at Queens College bring together the resources of a conservatory, an excellent research library, the doctoral facilities of the CUNY Graduate Center, and the wider musical and academic riches of New York City. Classes focus on critical thinking, disciplinary literacy, historically informed analysis, and recent trends in music scholarship. Students work closely with faculty members to develop their skills in research and writing. Both degrees culminate in a second-year thesis.
Musicology: Karen Henson, Arbie Orenstein, Emily Wilbourne
Music Theory: Mark Anson-Cartwright, Jeff Nichols, William Rothstein
Recent MA graduates have gone on to doctoral programs at the University of Bristol (UK), Florida State University, Harvard University, Princeton University, Western University (formerly University of Western Ontario), the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and the CUNY Graduate Center.
Applications for the Fall semester will be accepted until May 1. Fellowship/Assistantship support is available up to the full cost of in-state tuition for a limited number of qualified applicants.
