A Celebration of Richard Wexler
University of Maryland, College Park
Friday, October 10, 2014
Join us as we celebrate the achievements of Prof. Richard Wexler, who has just retired from a distinguished career as Professor of Musicology in the University of Maryland's School of Music
Guest speakers will include
Dr. Elizabeth Aubrey (Ph.D., University of Maryland, 1982), Professor (emeritus), University of Iowa
Dr. Susan Key (Ph.D., University of Maryland, 1995), Executive Director, Star-Spangled Music Foundation
Dr. Allan Atlas, Distinguished Professor (emeritus), The Graduate Center of The City University of New York
Attendees will also have the opportunity to hear the season opening concert of the University of Maryland Symphony Orchestra as it plays Maurice Ravel's orchestration of Modest Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, and the world premiere of faculty composer Mark Wilson's Concerto for Piano and Orchestra with faculty soloist Larissa Dedova under the direction of guest conductor Jose-Luis Novo.
We will be pairing this event with our first Discover Ethno/Musicology at Maryland Day. Students interested in applying to Maryland's graduate programs in musicology and ethnomusicology are invited to tour the magnificent Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, sit in on classes, meet faculty, and chat with current graduate students. We are also happy to meet with students interested in our undergraduate, performance, theory, composition, and music education programs.
