Upcoming deadlines: 1 April for non-EU/EEA nationals, 1 June for EU/EEA nationals; 1 February for non-EU/EEA nationals interested in the scholarship for the Research MA

The Research Group Musicology in the Department of Media and Culture Studies, Utrecht University (NL) offers two attractive M.A. degrees in Music:  Musicology (Research MA, 2 years) (http://www.uu.nl/masters/en/musicology) and Applied Musicology (MA, 1 year) (http://www.uu.nl/masters/en/applied-musicology)

The Research MA in Musicology is the only two-year, English-language Musicology program in Continental Europe. Students are selected from an international pool of applicants for their potential for research excellence. The program is ideal for those who would like to gain a thorough grounding in the discipline before considering further study or work in a related field. The unique second year offers opportunities for research internships, study abroad, or additional coursework in the student’s specialization. Graduates of the program successfully compete each year for PhD positions and have entered prestigious programs in Europe and North America. Alumni hold university teaching posts and prominent post-doctoral fellowships in the United States and Europe, as well as important positions in European arts-related organizations.

Students in the innovative one-year MA in Applied Musicology are selected for their potential and willingness to acquire the specific knowledge and skills required to operate successfully as a musicologist within the international music industry. The program is designed in direct dialogue with top institutions within the musical infrastructure in the Netherlands and beyond, and includes a network-broadening internship component. Students receive intensive mentoring while developing research and reflective skills relevant to questions in contemporary music production, programming, financing and participation. The program has an excellent track record of alumni acquiring positions within the international music industry.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
