Longy School of Music of Bard College seeks applications for an artist-teacher in collaborative piano who specializes in diverse and eclectic popular styles including Broadway, Opera, Vocal Jazz, Rhythm & Blues, Gospel, Dance Class Accompaniment, Acapella and Choir prep, and other varied genres. The ideal candidate demonstrates fluency and skills in the areas reading score, charts, playing by ear, and transposition, with a proven track record of working as a vocal coach and collaborator.

Date of appointment: Fall 2021

Job Responsibilities
• Enthusiastically recruit high level undergraduate- and graduate-level piano students to Longy
• Provide weekly, hour-long private lessons to undergraduate- and graduate-level pre-professional musicians in Jazz and Contemporary Music, Master of Music in Music Education, and Collaborative Piano departments
• Work as a collaborative pianist for Vocal Studies Department classes such as: Versatile Vocalist; From Broadway to Boston: How to Sing Musical Theater Songs; How to Create and Perform a Solo Play; Voices of Zion (Spirituals Ensemble)
• Attend and provide professional feedback on undergraduate and graduate student admission auditions, student juries, dress rehearsals, and recitals
• Counsel students on performance and teaching job opportunities and summer programs post-graduation
• Participate in large school events including new student orientation, commencement, full faculty meetings, and departmental meetings

Qualifications
Qualified candidates will possess an outstanding record as a teacher and performer, with a strong national or international reputation. An advanced degree in piano or demonstrated equivalent is required. Candidates with a minimum of three years of teaching in higher education are preferred.
