Greetings!
I would like to draw your attention to a postdoc position in my ERC project, “The Sound of Empire in Colonial Cultures in the 20th Century: Rethinking History through Music” (MusiCol), hosted by the Foundation of the University of Côte d’Azur, Nice.
By exploring the musical dimensions of the French empire, MusiCol aims to produce a robust new conceptual and historical model for the study of colonial cultures. Focused on musical life and new media, it studies how music was practiced, heard, and understood in the capitals of North Africa, A.O.F., A.E.F., Madagascar and French Indochina, 1900 -1962. In our research, we rethink history through music and, with members of MusiCol’s team from these countries, engage in collaboration and promote dialogue.
We are looking for a PhD with research experience in historical archives of the 20th century and in-depth knowledge in one of MusiCol’s fields of research: musical education; music in religious contexts; musical ensembles; music in the theater; music recordings; and radio.
