I’m happy to announce that the Pacific-Southwest chapter of the American Musicological Society will be holding our Spring 2025 meeting at the University of San Diego (USD) on Saturday, May 31. Thanks in advance to Prof. Charissa Noble of USD, who is hosting our meeting and organizing local arrangements!

Presentations will be on a wide range of topics, including: Parish band music in 19th-century Philippines; a Passion from the German baroque; visual representation of music in eighteenth-century Korean painting; Captain Beefheart as outsider art; a more general theory of outsider music; Janis Joplin and gender norms in rock; exoticism in the music of the 20th-century Mexican composer Manuel Ponce; Classical references in K-Pop music; opera for babies; Shakespeare’s musical comedies; and an auto-ethnographic analysis of cumbia music performances in the United States.

Our meeting will start first thing in the morning and last most of the day, ending in a business meeting and a wine & cheese reception. A full program, featuring a detailed schedule and abstracts for each paper, is available at our chapter’s website: https://www.psc.ams-net.org/

Anyone is welcome to attend our meeting and there is no registration or fee, but we do encourage all attendees to become members of our chapter. Membership details are available at the following link: https://www.psc.ams-net.org/?page_id=33

We hope you will consider joining us! Please feel free to contact our chapter officers (listed on our website) with any questions.
