The Committee on Disability and Accessibility invites proposals for a session at the 2023 Joint Meeting of the Society for Music Theory and the American Musicological Society in Denver, CO, 9–12 November. Proposals may address any aspect of music and disability and accessibility that you feel is central to advocacy, pedagogy, and/or scholarship. We would especially like to encourage proposals that use creative methods of presentation, including (but not limited to) workshops, lightning talks followed by breakout discussions, etc. Some broad topic areas of interest could include creating accessible classrooms, lesson plans, assignments, and research presentations; navigating academia with disabilities, including the research process and scholarship pipeline; and fostering a more accessible environment in a program, department, journal, etc. The committee will craft the session around the selected proposals.
Please submit an anonymous proposal to dbeasley -at-
okcu.edu by January 27, 2023. We will accept written proposals of 200–300 words, or audio and/or video proposals of 2–3 minutes in length if accompanied by an anonymous transcript. Please also indicate the length of your proposed talk: ~10-minute lightning, 30-minute standard, or 45-minute extended presentation. Notification of results will be communicated by the end of January. Accepted proposals will be asked to submit a 500-word abstract soon thereafter to meet the SMT proposal deadline of February 15.
