The Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester invites applications for a two-year, full‑time appointment in global musicology at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2024.

Candidates should be prepared to teach at any level of the undergraduate and graduate curricula, including a course in music ethnography, graduate courses in the instructor’s area(s) of specialization, and undergraduate courses addressing music of 20th and 21st centuries through a contextualizing lens of the instructor’s choosing. Additionally, a small number of students in the ethnomusicology program will require guidance with master’s theses.

In compliance with the NY Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $60,000 - $70,000. The University of Rochester considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, and internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

Applicants should have a completed PhD in Musicology or Ethnomusicology and previous collegiate teaching experience. Music scholars with global, interdisciplinary approaches are encouraged to apply. Candidates with ethnographic fieldwork and teaching experience are highly desired.
