Call for Papers
The Annual Plenary Conference of the Society for Musicology in Ireland (SMI) of 2022 will be hosted by the Department of Music, University College Cork. We warmly invite papers from scholars in all areas of music, including composition, ethnomusicology, music theory and analysis, musicology, performance, popular music studies, music education, and sonic arts. We especially welcome the participation of international colleagues, presenters from marginalised groups, and submissions from postgraduate students, early career researchers, and music industry specialists.
Due to the ongoing uncertainty of international travel and the prevalence of COVID-19 cases in Ireland, this year’s plenary conference will be held online.
Proposals for contributions are invited in four formats: (a) twenty-minute papers on any aspect of musicological research; (b) themed panels of 3 twenty-minute papers; (c) roundtable sessions comprising up to 6 ten-minute presentations followed by a general conversation; (d) twenty-minute pre-recorded lecture-recitals. For (b) and (c), the programme committee will prioritise panels and sessions that foster collaboration between presenters with a diversity of perspectives and experiences.
We are thrilled to announce that Shana L. Redmond, Professor of English and Comparative Literature and the Center for the Study of Ethnicity & Race, Columbia University, will deliver this year’s keynote address.
Individual proposals and lecture-recital proposals should include an abstract of no more than 250 words along with a 75-word bio. Themed panel proposals should include a title and abstracts of no more than 250 words along with 75-word bios for all presenters. Roundtable sessions should include an overview of no more than 250 words on the topic to be addressed and a list of presenters along with their 75-word bios.
