The successful candidate will engage in teaching and curriculum development at the undergraduate and graduate level, conduct research which addresses the music of Black communities and other marginalized groups, and engage in service within both campus and community settings. The 1855 Professorship program places a particular emphasis on collaborating across traditional disciplinary and institutional lines, both within the College and across the University.

Candidates should possess an earned doctoral degree in musicology or a related field by the start of the appointment. Preferred experience will include college/university-level teaching and a strong record of scholarly publication in topics related to the music of Black communities. A demonstrated commitment to student mentoring and leadership, as well as experience in working between and across disciplinary lines are also highly desirable.
