The Music Department at Colorado College invites applications for a 1-year visiting assistant professorship in music for the 2019-2020 academic year (with possibility of renewal.) The emphasis of this position is on critical and cultural approaches to music in the United States (popular, vernacular, classical, etc.) within a liberal arts context. The ideal candidate will be well versed in contemporary musicological issues, including decoloniality, gender, and sexuality.

The College actively promotes a dynamic and inclusive environment in which students and employees of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives can learn and work. One distinguishing feature of Colorado College is its Block plan, in which professors teach, and students take, one course at a time. For more information, please consult the departmental web page at https://www.coloradocollege.edu/academics/dept/music

The College supports scholarly activity via generous research funds, travel to conferences, and internal grant opportunities. We are particularly interested in candidates willing to support the core curriculum of the music department through offerings based on individual areas of expertise. A Ph.D. is required, but ABD will be considered if degree is completed by the start of employment.

Review of applications will begin on January 15, 2019 and will continue until the position is filled.

Applications should include: (1) a cover letter, (2) a curriculum vitae, (3) a statement of teaching philosophy, and (4) a sample syllabus. All applicants will need to list at least three references. The department will complete reference checks via phone or email for the top candidate(s). Address inquiries to Prof. Ofer Ben-Amots, Department of Music: obenamots [at] coloradocollege.edu
