The McGill Graduate Students’ Society (MGSS) is pleased to announce its 34th annual Symposium, to be held March 18–20, 2022, at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music in Montréal, Canada. The deadline for submitting proposals is Monday, November 29, 2021; decisions will be communicated in early January, 2022. Our keynote speakers are Emily Abrams Ansari (Associate Professor of Music History, Western University) and Jonathon Adams (baritone and early music specialist).
We invite proposals of 300 words on all topics relating to musical practice and culture from all fields, including but not limited to musicology, ethnomusicology, music education, music theory, performance studies, composition, music technology, sound recording, and music psychology. Presentations in the format of twenty-minute papers or thirty-minute lecture recitals are welcome and will be followed by a ten-minute Q&A. Proposals and presentations may be in either English or French. We can only accept one proposal per person and from scholars who have not yet received their Ph.D.
The Symposium will be held in-person with limited slots available for presentations to be conducted via Zoom. We have travel bursaries available (in Canadian dollars) for which attendees can apply through the submission form. Please note that we may not be able to offer the full amount requested—we therefore strongly encourage attendees to apply for travel funding from their own institution, if available.
