The Graduate Theory Association and Graduate Musicology Association of the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music are pleased to announce their joint 2023 Symposium of Research in Music, to take place at Indiana University Bloomington on March 31 and April 1, 2023. In addition to paper presentations and roundtables, we are very happy to welcome three esteemed Indiana University faculty members to give featured presentations.

We are currently soliciting proposals relevant to any subfield of music research, including (but not limited to) music theory, music analysis, musicology, ethnomusicology, composition, and related disciplines. Papers may address any musical repertoire, as we hope to feature a wide variety of musical conversations. Applicants should prepare for a 20-minute presentation followed by 10 minutes of Q&A.

The deadline for proposals is Friday, February 17, 2023. Submissions should include:
• An abstract of no more than 500 words in length. Up to three additional pages of examples/references may be included. Everything should be compiled in a single PDF file, no larger than 5 MB.
• Proposals must not include the author’s name and should be purged of any indication of the author’s identity. Digital author tags should be removed from the metadata of PDF files.

Proposals should be submitted at https://forms.gle/NtwnQvEvEiYg1Feb6. Only electronic submissions at the link above will be considered. The application interface will ask for the submitter’s name, institutional affiliation, and academic status. If you are interested in submitting a poster, special panel, or a non-traditional format for presentation, or if you have any other questions, please contact gta -at-i u.edu for more information on how to submit your proposal.
