Dear colleagues,

I would like to share a new funding scheme for research on cultural evolution and invite anyone interested in doing a postdoc with me related to cultural evolution of music to get in touch.

Details of the scheme can be found at https://culturalevolutionsociety.org/story/Templeton_Grant_2021_Home. I want to emphasize the following aspects:

-majority of the funding will go to 16 research projects, averaging £90,000 each over 18 months (expected to begin in December 2022-January 2023
-major motivations for the funding scheme are to provide needed funding for early career researchers and enhance diversity (especially geographic, ethnic, and disciplinary)
-those with a PhD in hand by mid-June 2022 should be eligible to apply as Principle Investigators
-deadline for initial proposals (<2,500 words) is Jan 5th

I see this as an important chance to provide funding for prospective postdocs doing research on musical diversity. There is no need to work with me, but if anyone wanted to use this chance to propose an application to spend time as a fully-funded 18-month postdoc at my institution (Keio University, Japan) I would be delighted to explore opportunities to collaborate on a proposal together. Both cultural evolution of music and enhancing inclusive interdisciplinary research are major themes of my research (see relevant publications below).

If you would like to discuss collaborating on an application, please email me (psavage -at- sfc.keio.ac.jp) by Nov 30th.

Cheers,
Pat Savage
