The Society for American Music invites submissions for two awards, due 1 June 2022:
We invite submissions for the Irving Lowens Article Award for an article published in 2021 that makes an outstanding contribution to American music studies. Articles eligible for consideration include studies on any aspect of music of the United States, together with investigations of American practices as they inform and intersect with musical cultures and traditions beyond U.S. national boundaries. The article can be published in either a peer-reviewed journal or an edited collection. The committee particularly appreciates nominations of articles from collections, because these are harder for us to locate. Authors or nominators of articles in languages other than English must be accompanied by a translation. More information here:
https://www.american-music.org/page/LowensArticleWe also invite submissions for the Irving Lowens Book Award for an outstanding book on American Music published in 2021. We define “American music” in its broadest, most inclusive sense meaning all musics of the Americas, in their historical and contemporary styles and contexts, including art and popular cultures, ethnic groups and minorities, immigrant composers, performers, and communities, along with American music’s ramifications on cultures elsewhere in the world.
