The Musicianship Department of the Mary Pappert School of Music at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA seeks a qualified part-time instructor to teach one section of our musicology and music history course for undergraduate music majors entitled “Musicianship V” in Fall 2025 (4 credits) and an advanced elective course for upper-level undergraduate music majors and master’s-level performance majors in Spring 2026 (2 credits). The section of Musicianship V meets on campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:25-10:40 am and Wednesdays from 9-9:50 am. The curriculum is determined by our lead instructor and covers music from the medieval period until 1800 in Europe and the Americas. The advanced elective course also meets on campus and may be on any musicology/music history topic that would engage our students and plays to the instructor’s strengths. Scheduling for the elective is more flexible but must still fit within our school’s designated time slots for such courses. The ideal candidate would have an energetic and engaging classroom presence, a deep commitment to teamwork and collaboration, prior experience in higher education teaching musicology/music history courses for music majors, and a creative and thoughtful approach to teaching. Interested parties should send a CV and a brief description of qualifications to Dr. Benjamin Binder, Chair of the Musicianship Department, at binderb -at- duq.edu. Review of materials will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
