2023 National Meeting of AMS/SMT
Ludomusicology Study Group
Submission Deadline Tuesday, August 15, 12pm ET.
Poster session: Music, Games, and Play
Recent developments in the field of ludomusicology demonstrate a growing interest in the scope of "play" outside video games. Many scholars are increasingly interested in music and its relationship to more aspects of music, games, and play, including but not limited to sporting events, amusement parks, casinos, and playgrounds. As a broader approach to ludomusicology defines the state of the field well beyond its traditional subjects, we seek to illustrate how the field intersects with a variety of subsets within musicology, theory, and other disciplines.
This year we will host a poster session focusing on all facets of ludomusicology. Both new and traditional topics will be welcome, and a variety of perspectives will be encouraged. The submission should present an overview of the research, accompanied by a captivating visual and/or commentary that clarifies the notable findings of the study. The effectiveness of the final poster depends on the harmonious integration of visual and textual elements. Therefore, when selecting posters, we will consider a selection that:
Engages in thoughtful contemplation regarding the developments and emerging prospects within the study of ludomusicological research.
Cultivates an environment conducive to a greater volume of research outputs or that improve on the shortcomings of conventional methods.
Constitutes a part of a more inclusive field that accommodates scholars from various backgrounds, especially those in the early phases of their careers.
Leverages the considerable number of ludomusicologists active in other conferences or scholarly communities outside of American Musicological Society, particularly those who participate in our joint conference with the Society for Music Theory.
Please send your written proposal, limited to 500 words, to AMS Ludomusicology Group (gamemusicstudies -at- gmail.com) before Tuesday 15 August, 12:00 pm ET. The proposal should include an overview of your research and what you plan to exhibit. Posters will be presented at the annual meeting in Denver, Colorado, November 9-12, 2023.
