Temporary Assistant Professor in Ethnomusicology, Popular Music and Sound Studies (0.7 FTE)
Job Reference: GT30050

The Faculty of Music at the University of Cambridge wishes to appoint a Temporary Assistant Professor in Ethnomusicology, Popular Music and Sound Studies (0.7 FTE), starting on 1 September 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter and extending to 31 August 2027. This post arises as cover for a European Research Council Starting Grant for 2022-2027 and is dependent on the underpinning grant funding remaining in place.

Holding a PhD in Music or a related discipline and with a record of, or clear potential for, outstanding research, you will be a scholar focusing—individually or in combination—on at least two of the designated specialist areas. Your work will complement that of an expanding and interdisciplinary research cluster within the Faculty, made up of colleagues working in cognate areas extending to gospel, jazz, and global histories of music—including post- and decolonial approaches.

You will teach on courses within a recently revised undergraduate degree at Cambridge; you will also teach at master’s level and be ready to undertake PhD supervision and examining. Administrative duties will include committees (potentially including EDI), examination boards, and admissions and outreach work.

We support and encourage under-represented groups and we value diversity. We welcome applications from individuals with disabilities. Our recruitment and selection procedures follow best practice. The University has an Equal Opportunities Policy, along with a range of diversity networks for women, global majority, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender staff. More details are available at http://www.equality.admin.cam.ac.uk/.

The successful candidate will be expected to take up appointment on 1 September 2022, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Full details of the post and details of how to apply can be found at https://www.jobs.cam.ac.uk/job/33522/
